A Cromwell physician received an ominous email from the Trump administration’s Department of Homeland Security, ordering her to leave the United States, despite being a United States citizen.
Earlier this month, Dr. Lisa Anderson received an email that began, “It is time for you to leave the United States.” Anderson was unclear how she became the intended recipient of this email, as she was born in Pennsylvania and is a U.S. citizen. Anderson told reporters that she has started carrying her passport with her as an extra precaution, and is seeking legal representation.
Just a few days prior to Anderson receiving this email, two Massachusetts immigration attorneys who are also U.S. citizens, received similar messages. Federal authorities told them to “self-deport due to the expiration of parole,” according to reports.
Sen. Matt Lesser, a Democrat who represents Cromwell, called the deportation letters unconstitutional.
“It has become clear that chaos, cruelty and incompetence are hallmarks of the current administration, plainly illustrated in this puzzling development,” Lesser said. “Not only are they sending out ominous emails with life changing directives, but it appears they don’t even know who they are sending them to! Dr. Anderson is a U.S. citizen and is now walking around with her passport for her own safety – this is un-American and unconstitutional.”
At the time of publication, the Department of Homeland Security has not made any announcement as to the validity of the orders, or whether they were received by their intended recipient.
